A TRANSCRIPT
REFLECTING EVERYTHING HEARD
A verbatim
transcription includes phrases such as um/uh, like, you
know, which are not included in the standard format, as
well as mm-hm, uh-huh, ah, and um,. Everything that
is heard in the audio is reflected in the transcription
including background noises (cough, laughter, sigh, phone
ringing, et cetera).
Why Verbatim Format?
Commonly used for research projects and focus groups, a
verbatim transcript conveys the atmosphere in the room. If,
for example, an interview subject is crying, the reader will
have a clear picture of each sniffle and sigh and where it
occurred in the conversation. Not only is every word in the
transcript, but the general feel of the room is understood
by the reader. |
